Alexander McCall Smith is coming to Canada on Oct. 2 and 3 to promote his latest releases -- The Right Attitude to Rain (Book Three in the Sunday Philosophy Club series) and his contribution to The Myths series, Dream Angus: The Celtic God of Dreams (on-sale Oct. 10). While here, he will tape syndicated radio's BookBits and the Dini Petty Radio Show, CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera and Writers & Co. with Eleanor Wachtel, plus Bravo! TV's Writers’ Confessions. If you can't wait until he gets to Canada, you can watch him on CBS-TV's The Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Sept. 28.

  The lovely Nigella Lawson will be in Toronto on Sept. 29 to promote her new TV show, Nigella Feasts (which airs on Food Network Canada in October) and the paperback edition of her cookbook, Feast. Reality-TV creator Mark Burnett (Survivor) is embarking on a new film adventure, buying feature film rights to the children's fantasy book series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. The first volume in author Michael Scott's six-part series, called The Alchemyst, will be published by Random House Children's Books in May, 2007.

The trailer for the film version of Eragon has finally been released, and it looks great -- watch it here! Based on the bestselling book by Christopher Paolini, the film stars Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Sienna Guillory, Djimon Hounsou, Robert Carlyle and newcomer Edward Speleers as Eragon. The film opens Dec. 15.
