The announcement was made on March 12, 2010 after a week of debates on CBC Radio, hosted by Jian Ghomeshi.

Cheever
The National Book Critics Circle announced their winners for the 2009 awards on March 11 - congratulations to:

Blake Bailey who won the Biography category for his book Cheever: A Life.

Other nominees included Lark and Termite by Jayne Anne Phillips in the Fiction category and Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder for Non-Fiction.

The shortlist for the 2010 Lionel Gelber Prize was announced on Jan. 12, 2010 in Toronto and Washington. The prize is a literary award for the world's best non-fiction book in English that seeks to deepen public debate on significant global issues. Congratulations to our nominees:

The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and its Dangerous Legacy by David E. Hoffman

Reflections on the Revolution In Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West by Christopher Caldwell

The winner will be announced on March 2, 2010 and the $15,000 prize will be presented in Toronto on March 23.

Fox has optioned the rights and commissioned a script for The Traveler from fantasy specialist Alex Tse, whose credits include The Watchmen, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Traveler was the first book in the Fourth Realm trilogy followed by The Dark River and The Golden City by John Twelve Hawks.

Congratulations to Salman Rushdie on winning the Best of the Booker award for his novel Midnight's Children.

Midnight's Children won the Booker Prize in 1981, then was chosen as the Booker of Bookers in 1993 - the only other time a celebratory prize has been awarded.
