bike tracks, fresh car skid marks

The
police photographed these bike tracks along the dry, cracked
earth of the tractor trail that led into the bush where Lynne's
body was found. At the trial, the prosecution claimed these
bike tracks proved Steven was in the bush. But these notes
from OPP officer Hank Sayeau -- the man in charge of
gathering evidence - reveal that from the start he determined
the bike marks "appeared to have been made quite sometime
previous when the earth was wet."

the OPP officer would not explain it to the jurors that way

This
photo shows the entrance to the tractor trail. "Until you
are Dead" reveals that two of the air force men who found
the body, and a third officer accompanying them told the police
they spotted car tire skid marks there on the afternoon they
discovered Lynne's body.
There
can be no doubt that police and prosecutor knew about these
marks and kept their mouths shut. These police notes dated
August 12-one month before trial-reveal that at a meeting
in Hays' office they specifically discussed the car tracks.
The minutes show that Sergeant Anderson and OPP Constable
Hobbs "saw spin marks."
