Anne Giardini

As a
columnist for the National Post, I write about the vexing subjects of family, love, work, gender dynamics, the ingredients of happiness and sorrow, our purpose and role in the world. Among my many areas of interest is women and power. In a recent column on "alpha" woman, I wrote, "Alpha women may not be who you think they are. They are astonishingly energetic, and have a gift for taking charge and getting things done. But they are not driven by a desire for power or a need to dominate others, but by clarity of vision, resoluteness of purpose and a delight in accomplishment. Their need to govern does not apply to people but to circumstances." This is the kind of power I envision more and more women claiming for themselves. I am a lawyer, writer and mother of three school-age children.
