Random House of Canada Limited is a full service Canadian publisher and distributor of books in hardcover, trade paperback, mass market and digital formats. Random House of Canada Limited was established in 1944 as the Canadian distributor of Random House Books. In 1986 the company established its own indigenous Canadian publishing program that has become one of the most successful in Canadian history. As a separate company, Doubleday Canada has been one of Canada's most prominent publishers for close to seventy-five years and Bantam Books Canada had long served as the Canadian distribution arm of Bantam Doubleday Dell (BDD). Random House and Bantam Doubleday Dell merged internationally in 1998. The two companies officially became one in Canada in 1999, representing the sister companies' titles in this country and maintaining thriving Canadian publishing programs.
Imprints of Random House of Canada Limited include Anchor Canada, Bond Street Books, Doubleday Canada, Knopf Canada, Random House Canada, Seal Books and Vintage Canada. In 2012, Doubleday Canada will celebrate its 75th anniversary of publishing books in Canada. Random House Canada has been publishing Canadian authors for 25 years in 2011, and Knopf Canada is celebrating its 20th anniversary of publishing in the Canadian market in 2011.
As a united company, Random House of Canada titles have won numerous Canadian and international honours including the The Scotiabank Giller Prize, Governor General's Literary Awards, The Man Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prizes, Commonwealth Writers Prizes, The Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction, The B.C. National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction, The National Business Book Award and The Orange Prize. Random House of Canada Limited is home to such notable Canadian authors as Douglas Coupland, Joy Fielding, Camilla Gibb, Richard Gwyn, Wayne Johnston, Vincent Lam, Peter Mansbridge, Linden MacIntyre, Ami McKay, Rick Mercer, Michael Ondaatje, Nino Ricci, David Adams Richards, Miriam Toews, John Vaillant and M.G. Vassanji.
RHC is also a third party distributor for Transcontinental Books, a division of Transcontinental Inc. which publishes high quality Canadian magazines, including Canadian Living and The Hockey News.
