He and his brothers played ball with the neighbor children over a fence for years, but were never allowed to play together because it was forbidden.

A father for ten years, a mother for eight, and for a time in between, neither, or both… "the parental version of the schnoodle, or the cockapoo."

Where to start for the newly deaf? Well, you can start by trying to remember every beautiful piece of music you've ever heard and then by thinking about that music over and over again until it begins to assume a new kind of form in your brain. You never know what might happen after that.

With her father she fished remote rivers, hunted caribou, and packed her own shotgun shells. With her mother she memorized the names of antique furniture, composed proper bread-and-butter notes, and studied Latin poetry at a private girl’s school.
